Lisa loves people! She has a passion for helping those who have been impacted by traumatic circumstances.
Personally, she has been touched by adoption, divorce, miscarriage, pediatric cancer, single parenting, blending a family, loss, and more.
Lisa understands how the hard things in life can influence relationships, behaviors, and the choices we make. Trauma has a sneaky way of showing up in places we never expect, and Lisa loves helping people make sense of it all.
Lisa has worked hard to turn her own personal pain into purpose.
In 2016, she completed a MA in Human Services Counseling: Marriage & Family. In 2023, she earned a Doctor of Education in Community Care & Counseling: Traumatology. She holds two counseling licenses in NC; Marriage & Family Therapist Associate and Clinical Addiction Specialist Associate. Additionally, she is a Dissertation Chair at a private university where she guides doctoral students in their academic journeys.
Lisa is proudly married to a Marine Corps Veteran and love of her life. She is mother to four beautiful children, and a huge fan of her son-in-law. She loves Jesus, the beach, horses, and she is currently learning how to play chess.
Lisa is licensed in NC for Marriage & Family Therapy and Clinical Addiction Counseling. Being a LMFTA and LCASA allows Lisa to diagnose stand alone mental health disorders, help people navigate family systems, or co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Lisa can work with individuals and families in NC either in-person at her office or via telehealth. Counseling involves a clinical diagnosis and a receipt can be provided so you can request reimbursement from your insurance company.
Coaching services are offered nationwide virtually. Coaching does not involve a mental health diagnosis and is not generally covered by insurance. It is a supportive and non-therapeutic approach that focuses on improving an individual's well-being and emotional resilience. Coaching involves education, goal setting, and support to help people with non-clinical issues. People generally prefer coaching when a diagnosis is not needed, they need assistance overcoming a particular challenge, or they want to learn more about a certain topic.
Consultant services are offered to nonprofits and businesses. Lisa offers mental health consultant services to organizations navigating the nuances of life with those they serve or those they employ. Among her specialties are adoption agencies, pregnancy centers, nonprofits serving families, or businesses looking to offer additional support to their employees that increases employee retention and satisfaction. Organizations who invest in the mental health of their clients and employees have more positive outcomes and enjoy richer relationships.
Lisa understands the many emotions that placing a baby for adoption brings. Professionally, she has worked with women as they created an adoption plan for their own baby, and she has counseled birthmothers post-placement as they learn to navigate a new life with an unnameable hole in their hearts.
Lisa loves working with our nation's Veterans & LEOs. Being married to a Marine Corps Veteran, Lisa has a deep respect for families on the front lines. Military & LEO families face an extra layer of relational challenges from exposure to adverse circumstances. She loves helping these families thrive through the toughest of circumstances.
Lisa's oldest daughter is a cancer survivor. Diagnosed at just 8 years of age, Lisa knows the strain a pediatric medical diagnosis places on parents. At the time of her daughter's diagnosis, she had three children ages 8, 5, and 3. Lisa knows the strain of balancing caregiver and mother, & is here to help you walk through the wilderness.
Many people carry invisible wounds that shape how they cope, connect, and seek relief. When we’ve been wounded or sinned against, it often shows up in our behaviors. Substance use, promiscuity, or compulsive patterns may not be acts of rebellion, but attempts to manage pain and survive. What appears troubling on the surface is often a deeper story of resilience and survival.
When we understand how trauma reshapes the brain’s reward system, we can move from judgment to compassion—and from shame to healing. If you or your church are longing for that kind of understanding, Lisa offers trauma-informed expertise that bridges faith and psychology, creating a safe space to explore both grace and growth.
The word "trauma" encompasses a vast array of the human experience. Death, threatened death, sexual assault, injury, combat, and repetitive exposure to adverse circumstances can all contribute to the development of Acute Stress Disorder and/or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Every brain processes trauma exposure differently, and while some may display no negative effects from exposure, the next person may develop ASD/PTSD. We don't have control over how our brains respond. But, we can understand the symptoms of ASD and PTSD. Lisa specializes in trauma exposure and is here to answer questions you may have.
Grief and loss have a way of knocking us off our feet. Everyone grieves differently. And, death isn't the only thing that can cause grief. Unmet expectations, the loss of a pet or loved one, breakups/divorce, job loss, foreclosure, miscarriage, infertility...the list of things that can cause grief is really unending. But, did you know, if not handled properly, untreated grief can turn into traumatic responses. Grief should be something you experience, not something you become labeled by. Lisa understands how grief and loss can influence our perception of self and surroundings. You aren't alone.
